The Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds proudly presents George Jones in concert Saturday, February 27, 2010 with special opening act, Wilson Fairchild ('Formerly known as Grandstaff, www.grandstaff.net').
There is no doubt that George Jones helped set the standard for modern country music. His music has had a major impact as one of the architects of the country music sound. By age 24, Jones had been married twice, served in the Marines and was a veteran of the Texas honky-tonk circuit.
George Jones had his first hit at Mercury Records in 1959 with “White Lightning”. Other well known #1 hits such as, “Tender Years”, “She Thinks I Still Care”, “The Window Up Above”, The Race is On”, “He Stopped Loving Her Today”, and “Walk Through This World With Me” has made Jones one of the top male singers in country music.
In 2003, Jones received the 2002 Medal of Arts from President George W. Bush at the White House ceremony. Jones continues to work about 100 shows per year with high energy and good health. In addition to his tour schedule Jones has “branded” a line of breakfast meats featuring sausage, bacon, microwavable “sausage and biscuits” and breakfast croissants as well as his own “White Lightning” water.
